West Michigan is hit by destructive winds and severe thunderstorms.
Western Michigan saw rain, destructive
gusts, and the possibility of tornadoes Thursday night due to a swiftly moving
storm.
According to the National Weather
Service's tornado warnings, anyone caught without shelter could be at risk from
flying debris. There will be destruction or damage to mobile homes. Vehicles,
windows, and roofs will sustain damage. Damage to trees is likely.
After strong storms, the National Weather
Service issued a Tornado Watch for most of the region, which will be in force
until 3 a.m. Friday. Throughout the evening, a number of west Michigan counties
were under a tornado warning; however, the warnings have since been lifted.
Additionally, the area was at risk of
strong thunderstorms. Damaged winds caused power outages in many neighborhoods
by bringing down power wires and trees.
A storm that brought heavy rains and
lightning knocked out power for hundreds of customers in the Saginaw area and
thousands in the Mt. Pleasant and Midland area.
Consumers Energy reports that evaluations
for power restoration are still pending.
